Throughout this shocking season full of twists, there have been many favorites. Although everybody likes different dances and contestants, sometimes people can’t help but have a soft spot for a contestant. Andy is an example of this all although he was not the best dancer, he stole people’s hearts. Social media even called him the people’s princess, and his fans were named “fandys”. Unfortunately, because of his lack of technical skill, he was voted off in week seven, just one week before the semi-finals. Senior Julia Showalter said, “ I was sad about Andy, but it was his time to go.”
This season’s choreography and storytelling have truly been like no other. Watchers at RHS have reported loving lots of Robert Irwin’s emotional dances featuring his sister, his mom, and honoring his late dad. Students also have enjoyed Alix Earl’s unique storytelling throughout her character work. A notable night for this was Disney night, where she played the character of Maleficent, which was a turning point in the season, marking lots of improvement. Julia Showlater, a Senior, said, “Alix and Val’s Disney night dance deserved perfect scores; it was so good.”
Recent scores have started to make some fans worried about the judges being biased. Most watchers have reported that judges have scored different dances unfairly based on the celebrity’s status. So far in season 34, people have thought that judge Carrie Ann Inaba has been repeatedly scoring contestants unfairly. Lots of watchers even began making assumptions that pro dancer Mark Ballas was getting scored better because of his legacy in the ballroom. Senior Harper Miesch said, “They are biased towards Whitney and Mark, but I don’t think it’s Mark’s fault.”
With the finale coming up, many students have predictions on who will win this season. Through this season so far, there have been some consistent top runners. This competitive close nature leads the scoring up to viewers’ votes for most eliminations. Many were wondering who would go home in the semi-final. But as the time came for elimination, it was revealed that Whitney Leavitt and her partner Mark Ballas were sent home. All other couples will move on to the final, taking place on November 25.
This season of Dancing with the Stars has been truly memorable through the fan favorites, emotional dances, and scandals on the dance floor. It is safe to say that fans will definitely be tuning in next year to keep up with the dancing and drama.
