Tours of the Summer

Whether it be Drake’s “It’s All A Blur Tour,” Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” or Beyonce’s “Renaissance World Tour,” both Ford Field and Little Caesars Arena have a concert fit for everyone. These tours, spanning throughout the summer months, had a ton of people out and about in the City of Detroit. Every tour had a different experience and energy, making it fun for Detroit’s surrounding population to feel the magic of these concerts.

Drake’s “It’s All A Blur” Tour

“One show wasn’t enough,” Drake said after announcing his tour dates earlier this year. After an overwhelming demand for tickets for the July 8 show in Detroit, the rapper had no choice but to extend his weekend in Detroit one day further.

It’s no surprise that Little Caesars Arena was the spot to be during the first weekend of July. The 36-year-old superstar touched down in the motor city with his accompanying tour partner, 21 Savage. The weekend was filled with electrifying music, interactions with the crowd, and jamming out to the pair’s top hits. Sophomore, Safoora Awan, expressed her excitement throughout the show, “It was so much fun, I was singing and dancing the whole time.”

Drake’s #1 hit singles such as “God’s Plan” and “In My Feelings” were performed at the tour, creating a thrilling environment for all fans in the arena. “Controlla was my favorite song he performed, the crowd was insane during it as well,” Awan expressed.

It’s been 5 years since Drake has performed in Detroit, and it’s clear that he has left his mark on the city

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour”

Taylor Swift’s climb to fame is certainly inspirational, and what came with the climb was her 10 famous eras experienced through strategically planned outfits, the trading of friendship bracelets, and the singing of various songs in the setlist spanning from all three different genres.

Swift performed a total of 44 songs throughout the three hour long concert, making sure fans got the best experience possible with extensive stage visuals and camera work. Taylor was accompanied by her band, backup singers, and dancers, making each song fascinating and action packed. She takes a journey through all 10 eras, starting with her “Lover” era, and ending with the “Midnights” era. Traditions were also made at the tour, starting with friendship bracelets. For example, Lillian Thornton, a sophomore, loved being able to trade different bracelets with everyone else at the infamous tour.

“I created and traded a ton of bracelets, it made the experience so much more fun and special,” said Thorton. Most fans traded bracelets, eager to see which album or song could be inscribed within the beads.

After a riveting two nights in Detroit, Taylor Swift has printed her legacy within Ford Field, making her an unstoppable force in the Motor City.

Beyonce’s “Renaissance World Tour”

After an almost seven year hiatus from touring in Detroit, Beyonce had finally made her comeback to Ford Field just in time for summer’s end on Aug. 25. It made for a perfect end-of-summer concert for everyone to enjoy.

It’s no secret that Beyonce’s vocals always give 110% and it was no different on her one night in Detroit. Sophomore Joelle Gadoua was pleasantly surprised that Beyonce gave it her all at Ford Field, “Her voice was really clear and gave me goosebumps at some songs,” Gadoua said.

Along with her top-notch vocals, came her skilled backup dancers. “The dancers were on fire, they did so much advanced choreography too,” Gadoua added. To make the experience even better for the audience, the dancers did stunts and frequent outfit changes throughout the performances.

Coming back with a bang, Beyonce made the last week of summer enjoyable for everyone in the surrounding Detroit area. Each tour had different experiences, visuals, outfits, and crowds, but one thing was for sure: this summer was one Detroit will never forget.
