Student Association of Signing Students (SASS) elects leader board
November 5, 2013
Junior Amanda Hudak presents a speech to one of RHS’s newest clubs, Student Association of Signing Students (SASS), as she runs for president for RHS’s new club, Student Association of Signing Students (SASS), for the 2013-2014 school year. After listening to her presentation, the members of the club then cast their votes onto a ballet and place it into sponsor Ms. Angela Lowry’s fez. She counts up the vote and announces that Hudak will be the president of SASS.
“I feel excited that I won the election because I know it’s going to be a great opportunity,” Hudak said. “I am happy to be able to be president of this new club and help teach all levels of ASL students more about signing. I have such a passion for ASL and I will put all that energy to being the president.
After winning the election, Hudak admits that her passion for ASL will continue throughout her life beyond the club.
“I would like to definitely continue ASL after high school,” Hudak said. “Possibly even become an ASL interpreter. The club will help me practice signing a lot more.”
Along with Hudak being elected as president, SASS members selected junior Serna Fournier for Vice president, junior Sydney Bammel for secretary, and sophomore Jake Little for treasurer.
“I know that it’s going to take the work of all the ASL club board members,” Hudak said. “Since we’re a new club, it’s hard to think of fresh ideas and ways to make the club a great experience, but I believe with lots of planning from the board members, we will succeed. I’m especially looking forward to going out in public and signing and seeing peoples’ reactions to this uncommon form of communication.”
