Taylor’s Version

You may be hearing all the buzz about Taylor Swift releasing re-recordings of her previous albums. But many people are unaware of what “Taylor’s Version” means at the end of all of her songs, and why she has a copy of each one.

It all started when the record label she trusted ended up taking all of her songs, leading to her losing the ownership of her first 6 albums, which include her debut album, “Fearless,” “Speak Now,” “Red,” “1989” and “Reputation.” Swift lost the rights to all of the albums she owned in June 2019, when Scooter Braun bought Big Machine Records and decided to sell the masters of her first 6 albums to Shamrock Holdings for 405 million dollars.

In August 2019, Swift appeared on the Sunday morning show and explained what had happened, also announcing how she would be releasing the re-records of all of her albums she didn’t own. Sophomore Vivian Sesi said, “To me, Taylor’s Version means the progress Taylor has made throughout her career and her identity as a whole.” Sesi also said, “My favorite album is “Red (Taylor’s version)” because it reminds me of the first Taylor Swift concert I went to.”

After the first re-recorded album, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” came out on April 9th, 2021, people across the world streamed the album so much that it earned 1.47 billion streams. To the people who didn’t believe Taylor’s re-recordings would be successful, these numbers for sure changed their stance.

Since Swift started re-recording her music, she has also created new albums under her ownership. Prior to the pandemic, Swift came out with the album “Lover,” which was the first album she fully owned. Followed by the releases of “Folklore,” “Evermore” and “Midnights,” Her latest album, which earned 14 million streams in a single day.

At the Era’s Tour, Swift  announced two release dates of her Taylor’s version albums: “Speak Now” and “1989.” Fans who attended the era’s tour, as well as those eagerly following from home, are awaiting the rumored announcement of the release of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version).”

While (Taylor’s Version) could just be a marking at the end of her songs that signifies her ownership, the phrase (Taylor’s Version) has a deeper meaning to Swift herself, and her many fans. It can symbolize Swift standing up for what she deserves and not getting walked over in an industry dominated by people trying to take advantage of her.
