As the season concludes for the RHS girls Swim and Dive team, there are lots of highlights and memories to reflect on. First, there were plenty of State cuts, pool records, and personal bests that carried the team to winning OAA White League Championships the second year in a row. After leagues were over, the team immediately started training for states since prelims took place Thursday, Nov. 20th and finals were on Friday, Nov. 21st at Oakland University. Congratulations to our state team Julie Castro Vela, Addy Kosch, Michaela Minous, Emma Phillips, Taylor Robinson, Megan Wilcox, Sabine Costa, Sofi Cruz Lebron, and Morgan Gittner. The girls were very excited for states this year!
Sophomore Megan Wilcox, just completed her second year at states and qualified for multiple events, she noted before states, ”I’m pretty excited to be heading to states, we definitely have a good team this year.” According to Wilcox another important factor that drove this team to victory was “The people, my teammates really make the culture.” Along with Wilcox, Freshman state qualifier Emma Phillips is another underclassmen who qualified for three relays this year, she mentioned, “It’s pretty cool! I’m excited, and I’m not really stressed.” Along with winning leagues and having many state qualifiers, there were many other important highlights that took place this past season as well. Specifically, Junior captain Olivia Miller reflects on the overall season and notes her favorite event of the season was, “Senior night, it was a great way to celebrate our seniors and look back on old memories. Miller also notes events like senior night are so special because the team has, “An amazing community, with lots of support from coaches and parents, and also great girls who have high standards for themselves and the team.” Another factor that contributes to the team’s culture of excellence is, as sophomore Ella Vollmayer notes, “Having a lot of teamwork.” Sophomore Morgan Gittner, a state alternate, also commented, “We all connect well and we are all friends with each other, we all hype each other up which makes for a greater environment.” Overall, the RHS Girls Swim and Dive team is not only built on amazing swimmers, but also on an outstanding team culture where everyone supports and cheers each other on along the way.
