The Rochester girls’ varsity golf team took the win over Oxford High School on Thursday, September 10, putting themselves at 2-0 in their league matches.

For both teams, it was certainly a match to remember. At their home course of Great Oaks, the team faced an unusually late tee time, starting their match at 5:00 p.m. For most players, the round lasted about least three hours, leaving many of the girls to finish up the last few holes under a completely dark sky.

“Our match wasn’t played in the best conditions,” said senior captain Hannah Bennett, “but we fought through as a team and won.”

With the help of strong leadership and a couple of flashlights, the Rochester team pulled through with 194 strokes as opposed to Oxford’s 227. Team captains Hannah Bennett and Reagan Engel lead the team’s victory, each completing their round with 47 strokes at the renownedly difficult home course.

“Personally, I just tried to focus on making every shot count and taking my time to relax,” said Bennett, “and as a team we were mentally tough and came back from every bad shot which led us to victory.”
