5 DIY gift ideas for the holiday season

Looking for a DIY gift for someone on your list this year? Here are five gifts you can make yourself with some simple supplies.

365 DAYS JAR/I LOVE YOU JAR

  • Title the tag/sticker that will be placed on the outside face of the mason jar – “(name of whoever you wish) 365 Jar”
  • Add multi colored slips of paper (365 total) into the jar, divided up into categories, with messages written on each one. (i.e. red paper- reasons why I love you, blue paper-memories, green paper- quotes about love/friendship, yellow paper-words of encouragement, orange paper- things to do, etc.)

HOLIDAY SURVIVAL KIT IN A MASON JAR

What to include in wide mouth mason jar:

  • Scarf, gift cards, tissues, Advil, gum, chap stick, little candies, etc.
  • Put everything you have found into the mason jar, and tie the scarf onto the outside of the jar any way you please.

PEPPERMINT BROWNIES IN A MASON JAR

In the jar:  

  • ⅔ cup of granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup of cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup of Andes peppermint baking chips

Instructions:

  • In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Layer granulated sugar, cocoa powder, then the flour mixture.
  • Add chocolate chips and peppermint chips on the top

Additional baking ingredients:

  • ¾ cup of melted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract  

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 13×9 inch pan
  • Mix brownie mix with wet ingredients in a large mixing bowl
  • Spread into prepared baking pan. Bake for 18-25 minutes.

PEPPERMINT MASON JAR CANDLES

  • Soy candle wax
  • Peppermint essential oil
  • Mason jar
  • Candle wick
  • Tea light cups

Step 1: Glue candlewick in the center of your mason jar. 

Step 2: Melt soy candle flakes over a double boiler or in a microwave. 

Step 3: Once the wax is melted, stir in the peppermint oil (about 15 to 20 drops). Pour into mason jar.Use a pencil to wrap the candlewick and hold in place while the candle wax hardens, and then trim the wick and leave it overnight to cool.

Step 4: Decorate the outside of the candle however you want. 

MARBLE DIP MUGS WITH NAIL POLISH

  • Plain mug
  • Nail polish
  • Old container
  • Toothpick or bamboo skewer
  • Paper towel

Steps: Fill the container with warm water, add a few drops of nail polish into the water, and then dip the bottom part of the mug into the water and set it out to dry. (Do not dip the inside of the mug or any areas you would sip from.)
