As 2022 came to an end, the excitement for the sequel of “Avatar” definitely did not. It’s been over a decade since the release of the first “Avatar,” and fans have been eager for the second one to hit theaters.

When the 2009 film made its appearance for the first time in theaters, it was clear that “Avatar” would be recognized around the world. Director James Cameron is known to be one of the most innovative filmmakers in the industry.

“It might be more impressive on a technical level than as a piece of storytelling, but Avatar reaffirms James Cameron’s singular gift for imaginative, absorbing film making.” After its release on December 18, 2009, it was clear that this action packed story would not have a difficult time receiving awards. The Academy Awards presented “Avatar” with awards for Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Visual Effects and Best Achievement in Art Direction. Although many critics believed this movie was a waste of money, the box office of 2.9 billion says otherwise.

The announcement of “Avatar: The Way of Water” had fans on the edge of their seats. As Jake Sully continues to feel at home with his new family in Pandora, a familiar threat returns to finish the damage that was started in “Avatar.” It is now up to the army of the Na’vi race to do everything to protect their home. In spite of being in theaters for as little as one month, it is estimated that this 2022 film has reached over 1.9 billion dollars worldwide. This puts it in the running as the sixth biggest film of all time, surpassing “Spiderman: No Way Home.” After its release on December 16, 2022 critics had a lot to say.

“Cameron remains nearly unparalleled when it comes to crafting action sequences, but it’s really the moments of sheer beauty in The Way of Water that really linger.” The audience cannot be forgotten when it comes to the reviews behind this three hour film. An audience member on Rotten Tomatoes explained, “Visually speaking it’s perfect, so perfect it gives goosebumps. Narratively speaking it’s touching, and, even though it’s simple, it’s deep enough to make some cry. A must see IN THEATERS movie.” With the popularity of this film increasing, fans are awaiting the release onto major streaming platforms. “Avatar: The Way of Water” is said to be streamed on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, but not until a later date. However, Disney+ announced the film will not be released onto its streaming service until Summer 2023. Throughout the long awaited announcement of the “Avatar” series, it will forever be known as one of the most spontaneous films to ever hit theaters worldwide.
