Plaid Friday is the new Black Friday in Downtown Rochester

Merchants across the country are celebrating an American shopping holiday, on Black Friday. Downtown Rochester is hosting a Plaid Friday event to celebrate the diversity and creativity of local and independent businesses. This day supports businesses all over the country and strengthens the community as a whole.

“Shoppers are encouraged to wear plaid and head to Downtown Rochester for a fun day of shopping!” Events Coordinator Jenna O’Dell said.

19 stores throughout Downtown Rochester are participating in Plaid Friday, and shoppers can enjoy deals and promotions throughout the stores.

“We are giving out chocolate Michigan mints with every purchase and anyone who spends over $60 gets a free pair of super soft Sherpa socks” April from Catching Fireflies said.

“We are giving free coffee with a sweet or savory waffle in the restaurant or a free hot chocolate bomb (snowman) with a purchase over $25 in the store” said the Zoet store in Downtown Rochester.

In addition, Downtown has added a selfie scavenger hunt called “Shopping with my Gnomies.” As you are shopping, you need to find all six of the gnomes hiding throughout the businesses, and take a selfie with each of them. After you find all six, you have to post all six of the selfies and tag Downtown Rochester on social media, and you will be entered to win a $100 Downtown Rochester gift certificate.

On Nov. 27, try something new and go enjoy this Black Friday alternative and go shop to support your local small businesses!
