Michigan State:
The No. 2 NCAA ranked team in the country will take on Grand Valley State University in the exhibition home opener Tuesday. The core, Keith Appling, Gary Harris Adreian Payne and Brendan Dawson will welcome sophomore Matt Costello as he will get the start.
Freshmen Gavin Schilling and Alvin Ellis III will receive plenty of action as head coach Tom Izzo will play with lineups before the regular season gets under way. Red-shirt freshman Kenny Kaminski will not dress tonight, due to a suspension that’s yet-to-be disclosed.
Grand Valley State University comes into tonight’s matchup with a 19-9 record from the 2012-2013 season. They were defeated by Lake Superior State University, 70-64 in the semifinals of the GLIAC tournament.
University of Michigan:
The Wolverines will play in a cross-town showdown vs. Concordia University. The No. 9 ranked team has not seen live action since last season’s National Championship at the Georgia Dome against Louisville. Freshman guard Derrick Walton from Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy MI, Freshman guard Zak Irvin and Freshman forward Mark Donnal will make their college basketball debuts tonight.
Sophomore Mitch McGary will not play due to a lower back condition. Yet, stars Glenn Robinson III, Nik Stauskas, Spike Albrecht and Caris LeVert will be in action.
Concordia University is coming into the Crisler Arena with a 14-17 from last season. They finished in the WHAC with a 12-10 record.
