“Captain America: Civil War” is a Must See
May 23, 2016
The much awaited Marvel Blockbuster “Captain America: Civil War” hit the silver screen on May 6. This third installment of the renewed Captain America movies looked to continue the success of the previous films, and many would argue it succeeded in doing so. The movie received a high 8.5/10 on IMDB while also receiving a strong 90 percent on the critic site, Rotten Tomatoes. While some disliked the film, the overwhelming majority enjoyed it. “Captain America: Civil War” ended up being an exciting, fast-paced movie full of action that still managed to include the typical Marvel humor that many have grown to love.
“Captain America: Civil War” is about the conflict that emerges between the Avengers due to the recent ratification of the “Sokovia Accords”, which will give authority the United Nations authority over the Avengers. Captain America is against the accords, and will be joined by Antman, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, the Falcon, and the Winter Soldier. While Tony Stark/Iron Man will be supported by Vision, the Black Widow, War Machine, Black Panther, and Spider Man as the main supporter for the new laws. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film was put on a path to success, and with the high caliber cast of Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Renner and many more the movie was likely to live
up to the hype.
The movie took a much more serious mood than that of many previous marvel movies, and many audience members were at least caught off guard by this. This serious tone was embodied by a few graphic scenes, such as those involving torture, which were clearly not welcomed by the seven year-olds sitting in front of the theater as their parents covered their eyes with their hands. This tone shows a change from many of the previous Marvel films that were clearly more gauged for a younger audience. However, this shows how pop culture is changing, and following the success of “Deadpool”, which was an extremely graphic Marvel movie, one can expect superhero films to become increasingly intense to appeal to the older audiences. Further, these problems are still just more based on preference, and for the majority of people the more serious mindset was welcomed and didn’t take away from the movie.
On a positive note,“Captain America: Civil War” managed to do a fantastic job with introducing new and exciting stunts that were simply mind boggling. Also, the addition of the traditional Marvel humor was surely able to make almost everyone chuckle at some point in the film. The movie also did a fantastic job introducing new characters and setting up their upcoming individual films, both Black Panther and Spider Man had an amazing introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that was able to get a lot of people excited for their individual films in the future. One of the most impressive aspects of the movie is how the motives for all the characters were explained; there was no villain that just appeared to be doing crazy stuff just because they are in a movie and it looks cool. All the characters and their mindsets were very well explained and because of this the movie triumphed.
So, if you are on the fence about seeing the film, go and see it, you won’t be wasting your time. The Captain America series is one of the only series that truly builds upon the previous films, which makes each new movie even better than the last. While some people may have disliked the more serious tone of the movie, this is clearly overshadowed by all the positive aspects of the film. “Captain America: Civil War” was a fantastic movie that managed to live up to the hype it had received before release.
