On September 11th, the Rochester Varsity Girls Swim & Dive team brought home a victory for us here at RHS as they beat Adams 100-84! This was their third meet of the season, and out of the three, this was the first one they’ve won. When talking to Bella Cerini, a senior at RHS, she explains how she was surprised they won because “we normally never beat Adams, so making them our first win of the season felt great!” Apart from Adams, they’ve competed against Troy,Adams and Stoney at the Tri-High Charity meet. They finished with a close score of 96-90 against Troy and came in second with a score of 69.2 at the Tri-High meet. Cerini says, “Every day at practice we work hard and put in our best effort to make this season as good as we can!”
To prepare for the meets, the girls have practice after school and Sunday, as well as weightlifting on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday mornings. Like any sport, this can make for a very long and tiring day, but Cerini says, “even though it’s very tiring and can take a lot out of you, in the end it’s rewarding if you do well, so my goal is to just do the best that I can every day.” Cerini, as well as the rest of the team, did just that on Thursday!
The meet brought a lot of energy with it as the girls prepared and were determined to beat the Highlanders! Going into the meet, Cerini explains how she felt “nervous because I didn’t want to let my team down, but also excited because every meet is so fun, whether we win or lose.” Cerini swims the 200, 100 and 50 all freestyle as well as some relays. One thing she liked about this meet was how she didn’t have to swim the 200, which she finds difficult to swim, “so I gave it my all for my 50 and was able to drop a lot of time!” She was very proud and pleased with how she performed, as well as everyone else on the team, and is hoping to be able to secure more wins in the future!
