Have you ever heard of the ASL Club and the Honors Society? Most people don’t even know this club exists. They do a lot more for the community than you think. The ASL club produces different opportunities to teach ASL around Rochester Hills. One place they commonly go is the Rochester Public Library.
They will usually go and teach ASL there. Another thing they do is also try to reach out through social media to reach out to other communities to teach people the language, and try to bring everyone together to learn it. They have an Instagram which is called @rochesterighschool_aslhs. They will also recommend that club members teach family members or close friends a sign that would be helpful for them in the real world.
The goal of this club is to spread awareness and give people the chance to understand what this language is and how it can affect other people. They have four people in charge. These people include the president, Brielle Bolash, the vice president, Caroline Hoose, the secretary, Charlee Poljanac, and the officer, Samantha Chuong. Usual meetings for this club are on the second Thursday of every month. During these meetings, they discuss certain opportunities that they could produce in Rochester Hills to teach ASL.
The whole club collaborates with everyone and brainstorms together as a group to produce ideas to improve the community’s knowledge of ASL. The ASL club wants to leave a legacy that will impact the underclassmen to step into their roles and continue to make the club a better place for other people. The importance of this club is that it gives back to the people. A lot of people don’t know ASL at Rochester High School, and it’s a language that is used a lot because there are 11 million hard-of-hearing people in the United States. Some of these people may need help in certain situations, and you can be that person.
