The day has come, and the show of the summer has ended. As we say farewell to the show that kept us looking forward to Wednesdays, we have to appreciate everything that “The Summer I Turned Pretty” was! For three summers, Jenny Han, the writer of The Summer I Turned Pretty book trilogy, has given us a roller coaster of ups and downs following the three main characters: Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. It may feel a bit sad that a favorite show of many has come to an end, but let’s take this time to reflect on this amazing show!
Since July of 2022, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has taken the world by storm! Senior Madelyn Hilmer is an avid watcher of the hit show, stating, “I watched the first season the day it came out. It’s probably my favorite show.”
To give a bit of a summary of the third season to those who haven’t watched: Jeremiah cheats on Belly, then proposes to Belly, Conrad then reveals his true feelings for Belly, and Jeremiah calls off their wedding. Belly then escapes to Paris, where she was originally planning to study abroad before getting engaged. Now that we’ve roughly caught up, we can address the series finale!
The finale starts with Conrad arriving at Belly’s Parisian apartment, which sends Belly into complete shock since he shows up unannounced. From there, Belly gives him a grand tour of Paris, showing him all the tourist spots. She then invites Conrad to her birthday dinner, where tensions with Benito stir the pot! After dinner, Belly and Conrad share a dance by the river. Later that night, Belly leaves Conrad heartbroken as she tells him she’s not sure if she loves him. From there, Conrad leaves to take the next train to Brussels. However, Belly soon realizes she loves Conrad! She ran to the train station, barely catching up to him. To her surprise, he was already in his seat. After confessing her love to Conrad, he reciprocates, and they share a sweet kiss!
You may be thinking, “What about Jeremiah?” Well, I’m glad you asked! The episode shows him finding his true passion for cooking, as he hosts his first big dinner for close family and friends. It is also revealed that Jeremiah and Denise are more than friends!
This episode gave the crowd mixed emotions, as Hilmer expresses, “I’m team Conrad all the way, and this episode gave us nothing. We got like, five minutes of them at the end, but had to suffer through a whole season of Jeremiah and Belly.”
However, Senior Kelsey Tran had some differing opinions, “I loved the finale. It had a lot of good songs and was just a really good way to end the show.”
Whether you were team Jeremiah, team Conrad, or even team Belly, The Summer I Turned Pretty will remain a show we will never forget. Although the series is now over, fans are always able to look back on the memories, episodes and characters they know and love!
