As the NFL playoffs rapidly approach, the Detroit Lions are in the driver’s seat in the NFC. Their huge 30-9 win over the Minnesota Vikings was a perfect way to cap this historic season for the team.
The Lions finished at an astonishing 15-2 during the regular season and earned the number one seed in the NFC. This means that the Lions have earned themselves a first-round bye for the 2025 playoffs. In the second round, they will play the lowest remaining seed in the NFC. If the Lions can win that game, they will move on to the NFC championship for the second year in a row. And if they can win there, they will go to the Super Bowl.
This was a record-breaking season across the board for the Lions. They led the NFL in points per game at 33.2. Jared Goff also finished 2nd throughout the whole NFL in passing yards with 4,629 yards, and the second highest quarterback rating with 111.8 finishing only behind Lamar Jackson. Jahmyr Gibbs led the league in rushing TD’s this season with 20. This was also enough to break the Lion’s single-season touchdown record that was held by Jamaal Williams. The Lions also had two receivers finish top 25 in receiving yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown finished 5th overall with 1,263 receiving yards and Jameson Williams, 24th with 1,001 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Kerby Joseph led the NFL in interceptions with nine.
This season was also the best Lions record in the team’s history at 15-2. The closest they have come to this, was when they finished their record with 12-4. This is also their second consecutive division title and their first ever time winning the NFC! The Lions are also the 11th team in history to go undefeated on the road finishing the season at an astonishing 8-0. They also scored 564 points this season setting a franchise record and 4th most in NFL history. The Lions won 10 games by 30 points or more also setting another franchise record. The Lions backfield duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combine for 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns which is the most by a duo ever.
But with no way to predict what will happen, all we can do is hope for the best. Hopefully, this will be the year that the Detroit Lions will get their first ever Super Bowl! Which is arguably the best way to top off this historic season!
