As the new year begins, many people make resolutions. Starting the year with a positive outlook and new aspirations provides hope and drive. New Year’s resolutions are necessary for the next 365 days. Though many don’t last through February, having those goals distracts from the scary fact that another year came and went. The lucky few, though, whose goals last through the year.
Many popular resolutions include bettering your health, body, mind, and career. Joining gyms, eating healthier, and drinking more water are the most popular. But overall improving habits and becoming healthier in all ways are good resolutions. If you are looking to make resolutions for the new year, take a look back on what was hard for you in 2024 and try to troubleshoot. This could include having healthier lunches, drinking more water during the day, going to bed earlier, or simply stopping procrastinating on assignments.
Many Falcons made resolutions for this new year. Mrs. Pasquale made the tough call to cut out caffeine. So far she says she has drank a lot less coffee and drinks more water instead! Mrs. Kimball in the office wants to achieve her goal of reading 75 books this year! That’s more books than most of us will ever read in our lives. Mr. Amore wants to improve his lunches. He says that most days he forgets to sit down and eat a good lunch. He said, “Today I ate a cheese stick and a couple of Starbursts.” But in 2025 that is going to change! Mrs. Haney, a beloved SHIELD said that it’s her goal to maintain a healthy diet and exercise.
Many students also had resolutions for the new year. These included things like spending less money, going to sleep earlier, aiming for better grades, and finding a good balance of time between school and social lives. Another goal includes exceeding in sports. Natalie Cote; a junior on the Rochester varsity cheer team, said, “My New Year resolution is to keep working hard in cheer. We are very determined to continue our winning streak on our road to our state championship. But overall taking home a first-place trophy at states is my goal for 2025”.
Even though most resolutions don’t last, don’t give up on them! Create good habits and better yourself in the new year. There are always things we could work on or have always wanted to do! Resolutions only work if you give them a shot! There is a whole year ahead to start a resolution, forget about it, start it again, give up, and then get back at it! Make this year the best one yet; they go by very quickly. Happy New Year, Falcons!!
