If you don’t live under a rock, I am sure you have heard of Outer Banks and the new season. If you have read the paper before, I am also sure you have read my review on part one of season four of Outer Banks. But if you haven’t, I will fill you in!
Season 4 arrived on Netflix on Nov. 7. This season came in two parts, the first of which was released on Oct. 10 almost a month before the second installment. This gap left lots of time for fans to fantasize and predict what part 2 might hold. Most of the general population thought a big twist was coming, for example, the death of a character, a big fight between friends, and more of the overused dad drama. Social media exploded over these guesses. Every user is more intrigued with what part 2 may hold.
Now into the good stuff! Spoiler alert! Be warned, these are quick facts. Part 2 starts with a crash-out from JJ over the land terms of Poguelandia. He turns into a crazy arsonist then runs from the cops becoming the wanted man of the season. Pope also gets in trouble with the cops. He gets an ankle monitor, which he later ditches. JJ goes to the Island where his actual dad lives and saves him from the pirates. Sarah finds out she is pregnant on the search for JJ and tells Kiara and John B. JJ finds out the truth about his actual Dad who previously lied to him and journeys with him to Morocco to find the treasure. On the way there, Groff- the actual dad tries to kill JJ, pushing him off a boat after JJ learns that he killed his mom. The Pogues and Rafe, who found out the truth about Groff and the real estate lady, go on a mission to Morocco to find Groff. On the way there they found JJ in the water! The journey gets choppy and pregnant Sarah flies off the boat, JJ saves her and they later wash up along the beach! Long story short, the Pogues lost the gold to Groff, the pirates came to fight them in Morocco, and oh yes… JJ was killed by his father.
Okay, that’s a lot to unpack. But here are my honest thoughts; overused, boring, predictable, boring, and did I mention boring? I had high hopes that the overhyped part 2 would bring something new to the table, and go out with a bang! Safe to say that didn’t happen. The same thing occurs every season, someone becomes wanted by the police, JJ acts stupid, the father figure becomes evil, and they lose the gold. This storyline was so clearly motivated by online superstitions that nothing new was brought to the table. I mean, another evil dad… COME ON. Also, there was intense foreshadowing, providing no shock factor when JJ died. But, some tears were shed. I have to admit that the scene was beautifully written. I will be watching the last season, but only because it has to end well one of these times. Maybe next time the pause button won’t look as appealing.
