With the holiday season quickly approaching, it is essential to find some fun, family friendly activities to enjoy to keep everyone occupied! Whether it be looking at beautifully decorated houses, strung with lights, or staying in and watching holiday classics with your family, there is something for everyone to do this season!
As the weather is getting colder and colder, snuggling up and watching classic Christmas movies with friends and family becomes more and more appealing. What better place to do so than Emagine theaters! Every year, Emagine offers multiple throwback holiday themed movies throughout November and December. The movies are chosen by no other than the customers! This series of movies is known as Flashback Cinema. Some of the movie options include The Polar Express, Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, as well as The Grinch, Love Actually, and It’s a Wonderful Life. Each movie shows for 2-4 days and the seats are limited so be sure to book your tickets in advance to ensure a spot!
If going to the theatre and watching a movie isn’t your thing and you’re in need of something more active, then taking a visit to Campus Martius is for you! Located in Detroit Michigan, Campus Martius offers so many activities for the whole family to enjoy. The spacious ice rink located in the center of the park is definitely at the top of the list. After ice skating, you can stop at one of the many stands surrounding the rink to get a nice, warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate, along with some delicious snacks! If ice skating is not your thing, then you can’t miss looking at the 24 ft tall Christmas tree covered in over 10,000 sparkling lights! It is a must see if you are in the area! Campus Martius has been named number one “Top Public Square” in the U.S. by USA Today and offers activities for everyone in the family!
Not only can you enjoy a holiday movie at Emagine or go ice skating at Campus Martius, but another holiday favorite is going to see some lights! Conveniently enough, in downtown Rochester, every building is strung from top to bottom in beautifully colored lights. They are on for the first time starting November 25th! You can go downtown and enjoy the lights after having a delicious meal at places like Kruse and Muer or the Rochester Mills Brewery! Or, you can enjoy the lights with a hot drink in hand from locations such as Cafe 3:16 and Dessert Oasis, all located directly in downtown Rochester!
If none of these things are catching your attention, this one might! Throughout the month of December, Greenfield Village hosts an event known as holiday Nights. Tickets range from $30-$45 and include full access to the village! You are able to stroll down Main Street and when you start to get cold, you can warm up by the bonfires or in the historic houses! There are tons of carts serving holiday snacks and beverages as well! Also located on Mainstreet is a large house where Santa is seated at the top! You are able to enter your child’s name and what they want for Christmas on an online list and Santa will yell out what you entered, making an experience your child will never forget! There are also free carriage rides, ice skating and skate rental, historic Model-T rides as well as horse drawn carriage rides that are included in the ticket prices! This event is very family friendly and offers so many fun holiday activities!
No matter what your interests are, there is something for everyone to do to get into the holiday spirit! These are just some of the many local options that can do just that!
