Since the new year has started, more and more students have been stressing about many things. If you’re a senior you’re most likely worried about your overall performance in your education, or if you’re a freshman you’re worried about finding your place in high school. This is where school clubs come in as a way for students to destress and meet new people to discuss their interests in school. One club that many Debate fans are looking forward to is the debate club, Debate club this year is being sponsored by Mr. Stanick, unlike previous years where Mr. Reed ran it. Megan Batson, leader of the Debate Club, has said that she is looking forward to the club starting up in November mainly due to the change of sponsor, despite the change the club is looking forward to this upcoming year for the club.
“We changed it up this year, so the debate will be a little different, so I’m super excited. I’m most excited to see the new people joining the club this year!” Batson replied when being asked what she’s looking forward to in the debate club. “I think it’s really good for anyone who wants to come out of their shell and argue/debate about things even if you’re not the type to argue you should still come for the experience of being a part of a club,” Batson replied. As far as Clubs go, Batson seems extremely positive on the idea of debate club starting up in November., Assistant Principal, Mrs. Pasquale when interviewing stated “I think debate club can really benefit students in education from the fact that it can open them up to real life conversation and if someone wants to go into a field that relates to debating about topics this club might be for you” Many students personally would benefit a lot from debate since it can open up more doors to careers in said field and may prepare more introverted students to feel more comfortable speaking about what is on their mind.
As for specific dates for when the club opens, November 12th is when debate club begins its first meeting on that day, so if you are looking forward to debating on that day I suggest coming to their meeting. When we are about to go into the year 2025 here in a few months It would be a great idea for newer and older students to connect to a club and with students’ passion for change, debate can be a good place to discuss topics such as sStart times for schools as well as nNew fountains being installed. So if you are looking to join a club that’s more talkative, then Debate is for you.
