As finals approach quickly, students all over Rochester scramble to ensure the best scores on their midterms. All of which have different classes, life schedules, and dynamics that all go into the process of preparation for these exams. Many students found that diverse spots to study in helped a ton in memorizing material and cram for finals as they drew near. Cafes, libraries, and overall quiet spots helped the vast majority of students to focus on their exam reviews, while others preferred to be in the comfort of their home.
For some students, it’s a matter of a good change of scenery and environment. A loud, bustling environment may be in favor for some, such as Sophomore student Aliya Bartz, who’s favorite place to study is her local Starbucks. “Starbucks has the best atmosphere for me. The store is never still and always loud. It helps me focus better on my schoolwork, especially when I have my favorite drink in my hand, which is always a motivator.” Aliya’s classmate, Lillian Thornton, also expressed her liking for Starbucks as her favorite study spot. “I love going to Starbucks right after school, it makes me feel very studious when I’m preparing for my next APUSH exam or essay.”
Sophomore Brooke Dieterle’s favorite spot in Rochester is not only a study session location, but also a popular place to get a bite to eat. Panera Bread, located right across our very own high school, offers students a mild environment where they can talk with their peers while still getting homework done. “I always like sitting in the booths with soup and charged lemonade to help me stay on task with my studying. Doing group study sessions has also helped me a lot as we can all review material while eating our favorite food.”
However, some students may favor the quiet, more peaceful environment when studying. Libraries are a popular choice during exam season, with many students enjoying the low-key vibe and stillness offered. Joelle Gadoua’s favorite spot happens to be the Rochester Hills Public Library, where private study rooms and closed off sections to work are available. “Being in a silent library puts me in the zone and motivates me to finish all my homework. I also love being in one of the private rooms to study with my friends so we can quiz each other on different topics.” Junior Lucky McCardell also shares his opinion on being in a quiet environment at the library, “Studying for the SATs in a quiet room helps me get my brain juices flowing and helps my memorization skills for the exam.” Whether it be in a loud, busy atmosphere, or in a soft, hushed environment, Rochester Hills has a perfect study spot for every student.
