This morning at 6:57 a.m. as the sun began to peak over the horizon, RHS Seniors scattered the soccer fields at Borden Park to attend the annual senior sunrise. This event is a tradition in the Rochester community where on the first day of school the entire class gathers to watch the sunrise.

Senior Class President Stephanie Glaspie, who organized the gathering, said “I was so happy with the turnout for this event! It was a great way to start off our senior year and keep the newly founded tradition going”.

However, considering the Covid-19 pandemic, some changes had to be made in order to accommodate for the health of the crowd. Masks were required, and social distancing practices were present for the majority of the experience.

“It was so great seeing the class all come together for such a memorable start to our senior year!” Senior Elise VeCasey said, “Even though we may not have had a regular first day of school, keeping up a tradition like that is something I’m really glad we were able to do”.

At the end of the year, this event will be followed up by a senior sunset, where the class of 2021 will meet again to celebrate the end of a successful school year.
