8 Quick, Tasty Mug Recipes

Mariam Hanna, Editor-in-chief

These eight recipes are great if you are in a rush or just not the best cook! All you’ll need are the bolded ingredients, a mug, and a microwave.

breakfast

French Toast:

  1. Choose a mug. Any mug. Perhaps your favorite mug, your cutest mug, your funniest mug, your most sophisticated mug, or the only mug you can find.
  2. In said mug, whisk together 1 egg, ½ cup milk, 1 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar, ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract, and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon. Or you can put more sugar and cinnamon. It’s all up to you!
  3. Slice up 1 slice of bread (it can be white, wheat, cinnamon, none of the above, maybe a mixture?) into cubes, and toss the pieces into your mug. Make sure they’re all covered and not just sitting at the top. These are varsity divers, not just ordinary folk.
  4. Microwave for 2 minutes, and voila- french toast for one! Top it off with maple syrup or your favorite toppings, and go enjoy your culinary masterpiece!

Scrambled Eggs:

  1. Find a mug. Can’t find one? Look in the dishwasher. Still can’t find one? Check, the collection in your bedroom. Please wash it out first.
  2. Spray your mug with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Crack 3 eggs into your mug, and whisk them with 2 tablespoons of milk– water works, too- and whatever vegetables your heart desires. Don’t forget to season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Put your mixture into the microwave for 40 seconds at a time, stirring in between intervals, until your eggs are ready.
  5. Yay! You’re done!

Mac & Cheese:

  1. You’ll need a mug.
  2. Put ¾ cup water into the mug along with ⅓ cup macaroni. Microwave that for about 4-5 minutes. I recommend doing that in 1 minute intervals because the water likes to rise and spill out of the mug if you leave it in the microwave for a few minutes straight.
  3. If there’s any water left, pour it all down the drain.
  4. Stir in 4 tablespoons milk, 4 tablespoons cheddar cheese, and salt and pepper
  5. Heat it up for another minute or two, and stir it one last time (I promise) to make sure everything is well incorporated.
  6. Bon appetite!

Chile:

  1. You know the drill by now. Get. A. Mug.
  2. Dump in 3 tablespoons of beans, 3 tablespoons of corn, 3 tablespoons of chopped carrots, 1 tablespoon of chopped onion, 6 tablespoons of tomato sauce, ½ teaspoon cumin, and ½ teaspoon chili powder. Stir it all together.

*notes, many notes: I highly recommend black beans, but whatever floats your boat. But since I’m a pinto bean lover and I’m suggesting black beans, just use black beans. If you don’t have corn, omit it. I had to because I have a corn addiction, so corn doesn’t last long in my house. You can use shredded carrots if that’s all you have. Also, you can use crushed tomato or tomato sauce- I used spaghetti sauce and it turned out great.

      3. Microwave for 2-2 ½ minutes just to heat everything up, and enjoy! Chili’s will be losing some customers soon.

Fettuccine Alfredo:

  1. Choose a mug! conseguir una taza! obtenir une tasse! !拿個杯子  !اختر قدح
  2. Put ⅓ cup fettuccine into said mug with ⅓ cup water and some salt
  3. Cook for 4 minutes in the microwave. Stir. Cook for 2 minutes. Stir. Cook for 1 minute. Stir. Notice a pattern?
  4. Stir in ⅓ parmesan cheese and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk, and microwave for yet another 45 seconds.
  5. Garnish with black pepper because you’re fancy, and pretend you are at Olive Garden. Buon Appetito!

  1. Locate a (clean) mug.
  2. In a bowl, add 1 apple, peeled and sliced thinly, and coat with ½ tablespoons of melted butter, 1 teaspoon of flour, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon.
  3. In a different bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of flour, 3 tablespoons of old fashioned oats, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon.
  4. Using a fork, work 2 tablespoons of softened butter in.
  5. Here is where your mug comes in! Layer the apple filling and the cinnamon topping starting with the filling and ending with the topping.

  2. In it, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the microwave.
  3. Whisk in ¼ cup of flour, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of shredded coconut, ¼ cup of milk, a ¼ teaspoon of baking powder, and a ½ teaspoon of coconut extract.
