BRIEF: RHS Cheer competing at OAA Championship

The RHS cheer team will be competing at OAA League State Championship on  Feb. 4, and is hoping to have of their peers show up to support the squad. The OAA (Oakland Activities Association) is an athletic league that include 24 schools in Oakland County, including RHS rivals Stoney Creek and Rochester Adams.

There is a five dollar admission fee to attend the competition, but for the team it is well worth the small price, as having an energetic  audience is effective in encouraging the girls to perform better.

“When supporters come and watch us perform it makes us look better to the judges and it boosts our confidence while out on the mat,” Junior Bailey Carlson said.

The team has been very successful in past events, including last year, when they took home the titles of OAA Red Champions, District Champions, and Regional Champions of 2016. As of this year, competitive cheer has already won several competitions, including the Athens Invitational Championship.
