Rochester’s varsity football team pulled off its first win, 30-16, at Stoney Creek on Oct. 23.

“We performed well because our offense and defense communicated well,” senior and football captain Sam Wolfe said. “Especially on defense, everyone called out the offensive formations so we knew what the opposition was going to do.”

Being the last game of the season, the team seemed more motivated than past games.

“Our mindset was different,” Wolfe said. “We had nothing to lose.”

Wolfe believes he will remember some plays for the rest of his life.

“My favorite play of the game was when Ben Sinko intercepted the ball for a pick-six putting us up by an extra touchdown,” Wolfe said. “But the play I will remember the most is the last play of my football career at RHS, the play where I intercepted the ball at the end of the game to secure the win for us.”

Wolfe hopes this inspiring win will provide momentum for next year’s team.

“This game gives next year’s team hope,” Wolfe said. “They can now believe that they have the ability to win and know that they can do it since they already did it.”
