On November 14, 2015, UFC Bantamweight stars Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm threw down at UFC 193 inside Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Rousey looked to have a fight without any problem with Holm, but that all changed after the weigh-in troubles. Rousey was 12-0 while Holm was 6-0, so both women wanted to stay undefeated. Rousey was heavily favored in the match and hoped to win another title. That did not go well with Holly Holm. She was destined to beat Rousey to stay undefeated and shock the world. No one would’ve ever expected the outcome of this fight to turn out in Holly Holm’s favor.

The first round of the fight began at around 6 p.m. ET and Rousey did not open up as her usual self. She was trying to pressure Holm. It was not working out for her because Holm successfully avoided most of Rousey’s punches and countered the punches well. Rousey finally locked onto Holm. However, Holm successfully defended, breaking away from Rousey and returning to the center of the cage. Rousey managed to land a couple punches and brought Holm to the ground, but she wasn’t strong enough to pin her down so Holm slipped away once again. As the fight went on, Rousey began to get beat up by Holm’s straight left hand, as Rousey’s pressure and lack of head movement really hurt her. Holm landed a takedown of her own on Rousey, but she let Rousey back up immediately, it was yet another insane moment just five minutes into the fight. Things are about to get really intense.

Holm opened up the second round very strong, landing her left hand punches incredibly hard. At one point in the round, Holm ducked under Rousey’s wild punches and caused Rousey to nearly fall to the ground. After that happened, Holm connected with another left punch that sent Rousey falling backwards to the ground. As she got back up and turned back towards Holm, she sent up a high kick that knocked out the great Ronda Rousey. This was absolutely incredible that she knocked out the woman that everyone believed was immortal in only 5 minutes and 59 seconds. Holm fought perfectly and was a lot more patient than all of the other opponents that Rousey faced before.

After this loss, Rousey has to take a hard look at her skill set and recognize the flaws in her game. She’s one of the best in UFC with her Judo skills and has great strengths in her hands, but Rousey’s defensive striking has always been penetrable. Ronda should take a couple months off to recover and train to become even better. Hopefully one day there will be a rematch between them and there will be a longer match so that people get their money’s worth of the match. One day Ronda will regain her title and be the greatest women’s UFC fighter of all time.
